Trehan remained the executive director and chief cardiovascular surgeon of EHIRC for two decades. In 2005, Fortis Healthcare Group bought over EHIRC. Trehan also served as senior consultant of cardiovascular surgery at Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi. In 2007, Trehan started Medanta in Gurgaon, Haryana.
