Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry is the best university Himachal Pradesh The University has earned a unique distinction not only in the country but also in whole of Asia to impart teaching, research and extension education in horticulture, forestry and allied disciplines with Himalayan perspective. Its history lies in erstwhile Himachal Agricultural College, Solan, established in 1962 and affiliated to the Panjab University. It became one of the campuses of Agriculture Complex of Himachal Pradesh University on its formation in 1970.

The university has two constituent colleges viz., College of Horticulture and College of Forestry located at the main campus, Nauni, having nine and seven departments, respectively. Besides a new College of Horticulture and Forestry at Neri, Hamirpur.

Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry is a university located in Solan, Himachal Pradesh. It is the first university of its kind in Asia which provides education, research and extension of horticulture and forestry. In addition, there are six Regional Horticulture Research and Training Stations, nine Research Sub-Stations and five Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) situated in different agro-climatic zones of the State.

Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan, was established on 1st December, 1985 with the objective to promote education, research and extension education in the fields of Horticulture, Forestry and allied disciplines.

The University has four constituent colleges, out of which, two are located at the main campus Nauni, one for horticulture and the other for forestry, having 9 and 7 departments, respectively. The third College i.e., College of Horticulture & Forestry is located at Neri in Hamirpur District on Nadaun-Hamirpur state highway, about 6 Km from Hamirpur town and is well connected with bus service.

 The college offers three Undergraduate Degree Programmes i.e. BSc (Hons.) Horticulture, BSc (Hons.) Forestry and B. Tech. Biotechnology and MSc degree program in a few subjects. The fourth college i.e. College of Horticulture and Forestry, Thunag (Mandi) is located at Thunag District Mandi. This college offers BSc (Hons.) Horticulture and BSc (Hons.) Forestry degree programme

Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar-“He was a leader of the Indian National Congress and the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh state. Upon the formation of the constituent assembly of India in 1946, he represented Himachal Pradesh in the constituent assembly”.

The Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF) in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, India has a long history that began in 1962 with the establishment of the Himachal Agricultural College: Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan has its origin from Himachal Agriculture College, Solan, established in 1962 with its affiliation to Punjab University, Chandigarh.

The College was raised to the status of Post Graduate College, Himachal Pradesh Agriculture College and Research Institute in 1965 with the introduction of M.Sc. (Agriculture) programme. It further became Horticulture Complex of Himachal Pradesh University and Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya, Palampur in 1976 and 1978, respectively. Later on, this complex was recognized as Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan on December 1, 1985.

Motivated and enterprising farming community, committed scientific and extension manpower of the university and appropriate policy planning are providing necessary impetus to achieve the university mission and goals.

Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan established on December 1, 1985 became the first Horticulture and Forestry University of Asia and dedicated to Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar, the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.

The University is located at an elevation of about 1300 m above mean sea level. The total farm area of ​​the university is spread over 545 ha at the main campus and 202 ha with the Regional Horticultural Research and Training Stations and the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).

The university is fully determined to impart quality education to its students and also to disseminate technical know-how to end users for overall development of the rural masses with agro based livelihood security.

According to the YSP University NIRF 2024, Nearly 75 students were placed with average salary of Rs 3.75 lakhs and more than 100 students were placed by YSP University placement cell with median salary of Rs 4.75 lakhs.
